Building bridges in green education: Egyptian delegation learns from the Dutch TVET Model

From 15 to 17 October 2025, ten representatives from leading Egyptian agri-food companies took part in a study tour to the Netherlands. Organized by HollandDoor in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo and the Netherlands Food Partnership (NFP) in Utrecht, the visit marked a key step toward strengthening technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Egypt’s agricultural sector through international collaboration.

Learning from the Dutch Model

Throughout the visit, the delegation explored how the Netherlands integrates education, industry and innovation within its TVET ecosystem. The key objective is to align education with the needs of the industry, equip students with future-ready skills and foster job creation.

The delegation visited a range of Dutch organizations, exploring best practices in curriculum design, practical learning environments, internship integration and public-private collaboration models. Notable visits included:

  • World Horti Center – a hub for horticultural innovation and education
  • Dutch Greenhouse Delta – exploring how high-tech greenhouse knowledge is scaled internationally
  • Priva Academy – showcasing blended learning for agri-tech skills
  • Samenwerkingsorganisatie Beroepsonderwijs Bedrijfsleven (SBB) – focusing on national frameworks and labour market alignment
  • LentizZone CollegeAeres, and Yuverta – TVET and applied science institutions offering insights into curriculum co-creation, lifelong learning and industry linkages.

Each organization shared examples of practical skills training, showcasing the industry’s involvement in educational programmes, ensuring that graduates are industry-ready.

A particular highlight was the networking dinner hosted by NFP in The Hague, offering the Egyptian delegation the opportunity to connect with Dutch stakeholders and explore future collaboration in green education.

The tour concluded with a wrap-up workshop where participants presented their initial action plans. Their shared ambition is to collaborate both among themselves and with Dutch partners on curriculum co-development, teacher training, applied research and internship models tailored to Egypt’s agri-food context. Collaboration emerged as a central pillar for lasting impact.
