September 2025 HollandDoor started partnering with GloballyCool B.V. on an export market study in Togo, commissioned by Lutheran World Relief (LWR) as part of the PROFIT (Promotion des Filières Horticoles au Togo) programme.
Togo produces a broad range of fresh and processed agricultural products, yet exports to higher-value international markets remain limited. Most produce is sold locally or regionally, where price volatility and limited margins restrict income opportunities for farmers and processors. Entering export markets not only requires production capacity but also a clear understanding of market requirements, compliance conditions and commercial viability.
The study focuses on three crops: chilli peppers, okra and cassava, in both fresh and processed forms. It builds on earlier market analysis by identifying which product-market combinations offer the most realistic opportunities for Togo. This includes linking specific product forms to target markets based on demand, standards and trade conditions. Specifically, the research is looking at fresh chilli peppers and okra for the European Union and processed cassava products for the United States, particularly for diaspora markets.
Fieldwork in Togo and interviews with exporters, processors and institutions are being combined with analyses of EU and US market requirements with the aim of understanding what Togolese value chains need to meet export standards and reliably supply these markets.
Within this project, HollandDoor is providing its expertise in technical agriculture and market analysis, contributing insights on production practices, post-harvest handling, processing and export requirements. The study is designed to deliver practical, evidence-based guidance that reflects both market expectations and conditions on the ground.
As the study progresses, it will help clarify concrete pathways for Togolese chilli, okra and cassava value chains to access more profitable export markets, while recognising the technical and operational steps needed to get there.
