In January 2024, Ad Merks from HollandDoor attended the professional Dairy & Agri Expo in Kurukshetra, Haryana, organized by the Dairy Farmer Association (DFA). This yearly event is attended by over 50,000 dairy farmers with cows or buffalos from Punjab and Haryana. The three-day program also included a wonderful horse competition featuring Nukra and Marwari horses, as well as an exhibition with many local and international agribusinesses. Companies in the fodder, feed, equipment, genetics, health product, and milking machine industries showcased their products professionally. International participants included representatives from Dutch companies Allflex, De Heus, and CRV. HollandDoor represented CowSignals®, an interesting concept for improving health and milk production on dairy farms. Next year’s expo will be held on January 16-18 2025, hopefully with a Dutch pavilion. DFA Haryana values its relationship with Dutch dairy companies as it improves the dairy business in India.
The most interesting part of the Dairy & Agri Expo was the milking competition with cows in three rounds in a seperate hall. Very milky type of Holstein cows were trying to break the Haryana record on how much milk per day (3x milking). The winner in January 2024 was an amazing cow with more then 80 liters milk per day (3x milking), the new Asian record for a Holstein cow. The competition on the type of cows was split up for Holsteins, Jerseys and Murray buffalos, this time judged by two experienced judges from the Netherlands! HollandDoor had many discussions with the Haryana farmers during the Expo on milkproduction, health and longevity of the cows. During several meetings, Ad Merks introduced the concept of CowSignals® for improving health and longevity, but he also gave technical advices on feeding, housing and milking. DFA Haryana is organizing Study travels on these topics to Western Europe, esp. the Netherlands, most of the time guided by HollandDoor. The last group from DFA Haryana was in the Netherlands in September 2023 and a new group is coming in March 2024.
