HollandDoor Cooperative U.A. is working together with the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development CAPRED to advance the global ambitions of Cambodian agribusiness SMEs. Teaming up with ProFound - Advisers In Development (Netherlands) and Cambodian expert Youssey Lak, this HollandDoor initiative is helping Cambodian producers of cashew nuts, rice, spices, dried fruits, and salt to break into European markets.
Following a comprehensive assessment of the Australian and European markets, carried out with support from Export Connect (Australia), the Netherlands emerged as the most promising long-term destination for Cambodian agrifood exports. This marked the beginning of an exciting journey for these SMEs, culminating in a B2B matchmaking visit to the Netherlands in October 2024 organised by HollandDoor and its partners.
The first stop for the Cambodian delegation was SIAL Paris, a leading global trade fairs in the food industry. Here, the Cambodian SMEs found many opportunities to connect with potential buyers from all over the globe. Building on this momentum, the delegation then engaged in more in-depth B2B meetings with industry stakeholders in the Netherlands, including in retail. The host organisations included the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, Aldebaran Commodities, QAssurance, Nuts2, Catz International, BrandM, Tradin Organic, Do-it, and ILG Food Group.
The Cambodian SMEs returned home inspired and optimistic. Not only did they gain valuable insights into developments and opportunities in the Dutch and European market, but they also established connections with potential business partners. With guidance from HollandDoor and its partners, the SMEs are now preparing for actual market entry and consolidation in the first half of 2025.
CAPRED is Australia’s flagship bilateral economic development program in Cambodia. Managed by Cowater International, CAPRED runs until 2027 and focuses on three sectors: agriculture and agro-processing; trade, investment and enterprise development; and infrastructure development. Export market development and diversification are key priorities in the agrifood sector, which align perfectly with the aims of this HollandDoor project.
